Sputtering, missing at idle to 1/8, help!

The rubber boots can't spin in the airbox without leaking there, seal it up. The air filter which slides into place needs a foam seal or the unfiltered air passes around the filter instead of through it. Check the rubber seals on sides of airbox underneath the chrome covers, if they are missing or leaking inflow air is not restricted enough. Your airscrews should be set at about 1 1/4- 1 1/2 turns out from bottom for correct jetting.

Has anyone ever used the "starting fluid" method for testing for intake leaks? I was told that while the bike is idling, spray starting fluid around the suspected area. If there is a leak, the idle speed will increase. I have not tried this, but I was told it works.
