    Smoke Signals

The old girl has been sitting a while. Started her up today and holy smoke what a cloud. Lots of smoke under acceleration. It always used to smoke when ya first started it but after a while it would clear up. I'm thinking rings and not seals anymore. How big of a job am I getting into re ringing a 78 GS 1000. I want to sell it but it might be difficult to do now. It runs good and pulls hard lots of snap. I think it knows its for sale. I really want a new Jackpot.

What color is the smoke? Is it oil or gas?

Bike is far to good a shape to part out. Found most of the parts needed on line for less than $200, I can do most of the work myself. It's just finding the time to do it. Looks like I have another project.:-D :-D

It may have dumped the crankcase full of gas due to bad petcock or needle valves. Happened to me. Not pretty. Check the oil, ASAP.

Check the compression before you tear into it. Thatll tell you for sure.

It was spitting out the pipe when it was running, thought that was kind of weird. It seemed to be not just oil. I had the choke partially on to keep it running. Possibly oil and gas mix. Still dosen't explain all the smoke when you rev it up.
