    another question on carbs..HELP...

WELL....got the g/f an 86 gs550 ef....Ran pretty good for a couple of weeks...idled good once it warmed up, drove nice...went to her moms yesterday, then went to leave, GAS GAS GAS...in airbox, in the exhaust....If noah was in there...an ark would have been built man....So...something stuck open in the carbs i assume???

the bike only has 14,000 km's on it...and i know the las towners never drove it much, so maybe they just gummed up.:?

First check the air filter. Check battery, Spark plug spark(weak, strong) Are the spark plugs fouled? You need to do a little tinkering before anyone here can help you. Also you carb floats might be sticking causing the flood. Turn off the petcock when parked.

air filter was dirty, but not enough to richen it up like that, spark should be good, it was running fine half an hour earlier, and for 2 weeks for that matter, battery is new. I thought these petcocks had no OFF on them, just prime, res, run.....

Check and see if there is gas in the vacuum line leading to the petcock.

Apply vacuum to the small line that leads to your petcock and see if it sucks gas.

A mouth full of gas:-( If that happens the petcock diaphragm is bad and needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

the line off the petcock provides a vacuum from cyl 2 or 3, which opens the fuel line in the the res and run/on position. that means that when the engine is off the petcock is closed. prime just bypasses this function, allowing gas to flow all the time. good luck, i jsut rebuilt my entire fuel line from petcock thru carbs. it takes a while but a good job is totally worth it.

well my thoughts are either stuck float, or what you guys suggested with the pet cack.

well, pulled the plugs, they were fouled pretty bad, so i will get new ones i guess....It wasn't displaying any symptoms of running rich, it was running good when we drove it...no black smoke or anything. some around the ends of the exhaust, but the bike wasn't cleaned for along time...or almost never. so what should i look for?

Replace the air cleaner and the plugs and see what happens.

well, the g/f told me she drove with the choke on for a while the other day, so that could have done it....SO...new plaugs, filter and oil/filter and i will tell ya what happens.
