Carburetor gaskets &...

Hello, I just bought a new motorcycle. It is a Gs550L 1983.

I'm fixing an idle problem, and I'm currently cleaning the carbs (super well). But I can't seem to find a nice place to buy some parts...

I need gaskets and o-rings that are inside the carburetors, but only the gaskets...my floats and stuff seem fine.

I also would be interested in the air screws and springs.

And the last one would be the manifold boots, but i don't know if I really need to replace them because they are still very maluable, but around the screws a top-layer of rubber is chipped around all four.. but doesnt seem that it would have a leak..maybe..

Oh, one last thing, even though my bike is a 1983, my carbs are a 1982 model set. I don't know why or how, but they are... (so the manifold boots would be 4x instead of 2x).

go to the suzuki dealer they can get you those small carb parts.

For what it's worth, I've just been quoted $35/carb for kits from local Suzuki dealer. That's for my 83 750E. I think I'll keep looking.

If you have 4 intake boots someone has changed the engine! The 4 valve TSCC 550 engine will not accept the earlier boots, no way, no how. 1982 was the last year for the old engine and dual shocks with 1983 being the first year of the full floater rear suspension, 2 2 barrel carbs and the Twin Swirl Cumbustion Chamber (16 Valve) engine.

You need to confirm what you have.

There are a couple of guys w/ ebay stores that sell decent rebuild kits for like $14 per carb

Dennis Kirk will have K&L carb rebuild kits for $17-$21 per carb. This will have all the gaskets, o-rings, new jets, and most importantly a float jet needle and seat.

I found a four carbs kit on e-bay for 75 dollars.

AND THEN I ENCOUNDERED ANOTHER PROBLEM....

while taking out the crap from my carburetor, i seem to have found that the pins holding the floats wont want to come off! while trying to use something to push it out, I slipped and it stuck right into the float! ($26 dollar mistake...)

OK< Question is: Any ideas on how to get out the pins that hold the floats? They seem to be quite ampely stuck.

Patience. And be carefull, the tower that holds that pin can break really easy!!

I used a dremel to cut the pin...need a steady hand..but, I didnt want to chance breaking the float tower...One was already broken, and paying a buck for the pin was worth it

I have used those K&L kits. They're fine.

Your pins are not stuck. I ran into this problem when doing the carbs on my 1000GL. They are press fit.

I went to a (Honda) dealer with the carbs (the bowls removed). The tech pulled out a tool I had never seen before - a spring punch - and he got all four started for me (at no charge). Took him less than a minute.

The tool looks like a plain punch, but the tip presses into the handle and at a certain point the spring loading exerts a bit of force sort of like a light tap with a hammer. I'll bet one of those tools isn't very expensive...

After he got the four pins started for me, I took the carbs home and did the rest myself.

some of them have a small head / if so use a sharp pair of side cutter pliers to carefull ease it out !!!! REMEMBER which way it comes out IT is a tapered fit
