GS1000S rear brake pivot/spline removal

Hi Guys.

Firstly many thanks to Keith for getting me to post this in the correct forum -

Anyhow I have a '79 GS1000S which has a sticking rear brake pedal. I have checked and stripped the caliper (fine) and found (while it was off) that that the rear pedal has seized/sticking/ is reluctant to return to the resting position.

How easy is it to remove and grease the spline as I can find no mention of how to do this in either the Haynes or factory manual. Could anyone please give me a step by step guide as I seem to be missing the point somewhere and it appears to be a bit of a swine to remove.

I'd spray the heck out of it with a knockerloose kinda product and work it like it needed the money.

Behind the frame there is a rod going to the rear master cylinder and you have to dissconnect that by undoing the split pin holding the little rod to the rear of the pedal. U might have to undo the 12 mm bolts holding the master cylinder to the frame to make it more workable. The rear brake pedal comes off with the 12mm bolt removed and should slide off. Attatched to the pivot shaft that runs through the frame is a large spring (for return) and a small spring for the stop switch. Its a bit fiddly but it should come out the back. Clean and lube and replace. Hope this points u in the right direction.

Is it the stock swingarm or an 1100 swingarm?

If it's an 1100 swingarm you may have a clearance problem with
the pedal and the swingarm, very close to the pivot point.
Otherwise follow sharpy's advice

Remove the brake pedal, lay the bike over on it's side, and spray PB Blaster around the splines. The gravity will let the fluid flow down into the shaft, and hopefully after about a week, you will be able to pull the shaft out. I am sure there is a lot of rust in the shaft bore.
