    stupid fuses

    greetings all!

i am new to this site (obviously), and i have found it so far very informative! i recently got an '82 GS1100GL. for some reason i cannot figure out or find reason for, it keeps blowing it's main power fuse. put a new one in, and i'll be lucky to make it another fifty yards before *poof* no more power, period! anyone have any suggestions?[-o< i can find no worn wiring, or exposed connections...

i'm supposed to be going on a ride this coming friday, and this started today!

    thanks

Is it the stock wiring loom? Has it been rebuilt?

Pull the tank off and check under there for worn wires, something might have been trapped at some point.

It sounds like a short to me so I would just give it a good going through

Failing that.. remove the fuse and replace with a steel bar of the same dimensions. I guarantee it wont blow again! (kidding) :-D

    Nice bike btw!

stock wiring, i've traced all the wiring around the starter, the battery, under the tank, and the plug wires. nothing frayed, nothing worn. i'm going to get a piece of steel now...

        Fuses

Hey bro, check the wiring first, but it might be your R/R. I had to replace mine in my 85' 700es. No more blown fuses!  !!!!

That's what I was thinking. See the Stator papers and check out your charging system.

Mine took out the main fuse it was the rectifier/regulator (r/r).

when the rectifiers in the R&R fail they become a dead short back through the stator.

odds are if you can find no short anyplace in the exposed harness you will need the R&R and a stator also.
