what gas tanks will fit?

I have a 1982 GS1100G. Will the tank for the 850 G and or 1100 and 850 L fit?

Will the tank from a GS550 E of the same era fit on a 700e?

the tank for a 82/83 1100G and a GK are a dirrect interchange.

the PN# for the 850G is differant but that don't indicate that it won't fit, you just have to measure.

How about the GL, I understand it is a larger tank but I also think there was somebody at the NC ride with an L tank on a G, but I am not sure and I sure don't know who.

GL is a smaller tank... 82 was first year for the two bolt rear tank hold down

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think the L thank will fit. I think the rear tank mount structure is different. I've got an 82 850G tank coming for my 82 1100G and if I have any trouble I'll let you know.

An 82 850G tank WILL NOT fit an 82 1100G tank.
I have the tears to prove it.

Tanks for the following models interchange. They may not be the same color, but they will definitely interchange:

-- 1982 GS850GZ
-- 1982 GS1100GZ
-- 1983 GS850GD
-- 1983 GS1100GZ
-- 1982 GS1100GKZ
-- 1983 GS1100GKD
-- 1984 GS1100GKE

Earlier model 850G and 1000G tanks will not interchange with these.

Any year GL tank will not either.

The best thing I can recomend is to get measurements of the mounting points and try to match the tanks that way. I've seen a few that look realy close, but the mounts were off just enough to cause a problem.
