GS1000 Crank Compatibility?

Hi, I have a 78 GS1000 engine that has a twisted crank. I was wondering if I could put another year crank in the engine (maybe a year that is not as prone to twisting)? Or should I have mine trued and welded (this sounds like it might be more expensive)? Thanks in adavance for your input, Sam

up to 79 is same and possibly also chain drive 1980's
the 1000G shafty has a different clutch drive gear, and the end the starter clutch and rotor sit on is different as well.

When did they start welding the crank to keep it from twisting?

I don't remember any of the 2 valve GS 1000 cranks being welded. The 4 valve GS 1000 Katana may have been
