    question about 1100 motor

I'm fairly new to all of this but I have a 1980 1100 16 valve motor, and I read somewhere that the 1985 motor is the best one. Is there a particular reason? Are the cams different. or what. Thanks for any responses. Dan

I believe that the 85' motor is an 1150 instead of an 1100. Might want to double check...

Yep, 84-85-86 was an 1150 engine. There were no 1100's after 83. (at least not in the U.S.) LOL

1150 motor has larger wrist pins and the crank is pinned to stop the twist problem the 11s had. Heads are different but will interchange. cases are the same so it's a bolt in deal.Wiring should plug in for both the charging system and the ignition. head pipe for the frame you are using is required...Jack

Like others commented, '84 and up are 1150's. Same basic engine configuration, but many upgrades. The big boost came from more agressive cams, and a better flowing head. If you ever see used 1150 cams, or a head on Ebay, they get BIG money because everyone wants to pimp up their 1100's.

You will lose the tach gear on the cam though. The 1150s used electronic tachs.
