I never tried to take my grips off since putting them on.

Kuryakn grips come as a set one side will be 7/8 id for the clutch side and the other is like 1" for the throttle. The kit also comes with the required adhesive and instructions. Follow the instructions cause you don't have much working time with that adhesive.
I am using Moto-Asia grips (Chrome with rubber insert) it comes sized for clutch and throttle side just like the Kuryakn grips but without instructions and adhesive.

Not the two pair I just bought. They were both exactly the same size. Each one fit perfectly on the clutch side, neither would even begin to go on the throttle side.

Then you accidentially bought grips for an ATV or watercraft. Both of these use a lever type throttle, and have the same id (smaller) on both ends.

Rats! I hope I don't have this problem too. I'm having new handlebars and Kuryakn grips shipped to me by the end of this week. Let me know if you get it figured out

As a side note. Hairspray... is there any way to get the grips off afterwards without ruining them? The new handlebar I ordered could be hit or miss on long rides...

Not the pairs I've bought, I'm 0 for 2 !!!! One set I bought off of eBay, and they were both 7/8. The other set I picked up today at a local bike shop, and they are both 7/8!!!! I can return the second set, but I'm still confused as to why some are sold the same size, and others in two sizes!
Madness, I've never seen a set of grips that didn't have a throttle side. A set of 7/8ths grips SHOULD come with two different sizes, it can't work any other way. If you're buying grips that don't, somebody buggered up somewhere.

When I put my new grips on, I had no problems. I used some lube (wd-40) and just pushed them on.

I just changed handlebars a few weeks back, but the old grips mounted up fine, so I don't think they are 1"...........I don't get it, maybe I just received two odd sets, because I could not tell a difference in diameter on either one. Maybe I'm just retarded.........

I've never had this problem, and I've installed almost everything from "el cheapo" basic grips to Kuryakin grips. Are you sure that the throttle sleeve is original? Is there any way someone could have put a 1" throttle sleeve on your handlebars? If there is anything between the bar and the sleeve then it probably is not stock, or if there is any "wobble" in the sleeve.

Also, some of the foam grips have a thin rubber sleeve on the inside. Is it possible that there is still one of those sleeves on the throttle? It's pretty easy to overlook if the throttle sleeve is black, also.

Like others have said, every pair of grips I've ever bought were two different sizes. The difference is slight but noticeable. I've had very good luck with Pro-Grip brand. Inexpensive and good quality. I agree with the hairspray idea too. It too is inexpensive and works great. I use Aqua-Net brand, costs a couple bucks for a lifetime supply (unless you use it on your hair too!)

The first set were "cushion" type grips, and by jamming them on there, they ripped through the cushion, hence my question as to the 7/8" vs. 1" difference. Guess I will get a set of 1" grips, and tape the crap out of the clutch side, or just buy a second set and have a set left over! Thanks for all the responses!!!!
Spary hair spray inside the grip and PUSH it on from the bottom. If you try to grab it and pull it on it will not work.Hold on to the handlebar and "push" from the back. I put grips on golf clubs all the time like this and it works every time.

    Wd40

Grips stretch. Just slide them on.

It seems counter to all reason and good sense, but it really does work to spray the inside with WD40 and slide 'em on. Its dries within a few hours, and they do not slip thereafter. Thanks to the folks on the Kawi KLR650 forum for this tip.

Also works to get 'em off - slide a stick or somethng thin and stuff under the grip, slide that little WD40 straw in the gap, spray, twist and repeat. East peasy.
