    750 oil gears for a GS1000G

    Hi

Wondering what gears to lay my hands on.

My understanding is you need the 4 valve 750 gears

4 valve oil gears are the higher volume ones. The question I have is why switch on your 1000G model? 4 valve models enjoy the higher volume because the bearings are the shell type and have tighter clearances requiring higher pressure to keep a cushion of oil between the bearing surfaces. Early 4 valve engines like the higher pressure gears because when running higher lift cams the valve train takes a strain and requires more oil. 2 valve engines with the shim buckets live in a pool of oil and don't really need the extra volume. Just my .02.

APE stocks what you need. Buying new is a whole lot easier that scrounging around trying to find the right gears. The high performance oil pump gears for the 1100s that the catalogs sell, are just 750 gears.

So with the mods I am doing on my 1000 (1085 pistons, ported head, aftermarket cams), should I consider the 750 gears, or would it just be a waste?
