    GS1100esd Hot Starting Problem

Hello Fellow GS riders. I am in need of some help! My 83 GS 1100esd starts up just fine in the morning and when cold but almost everytime I pull into refueling, it struggles to start up. I changed the ground cable but it did not help. Any suggestions??

maybe your battery is week. it might be fine after having been stood but the engine may be making the starter hot and therefore the weak battery may not be able to deliver enough power.

may be other things that cause the engine to get hot which are making the problem worse

What colour are your plugs?? It may be running rich, which will give the symptoms you describe. How clean is your air filter etc?

Also check your charging system with the stator papers.

The starter motor may be bad. A lot of times when they get hot they won't work.

Ok! I did the stator test and it passed with no problems. The plugs were brown and not showing it to be running rich. Air filter was ok too! Checked out the battery, took a voltage reading after charging it for 3 days. The voltage was ok but when I took a battery load tester to my battery and it registered weak. Decided to first get a new maintenance free battery to see if this clears the problem. I bet that it is the problem!! Thanks for the helpful tips.

If the new battery doesn't fix the problem ? Remove the starter clean/replace the brushes

So far the new battery seems to have done the trick. You all are great!!
                  Thanks, Kich
