Pin Stripe Removal from sidecovers/tail-piece

I have managed to sand all the rusty parts off my tank, including the pin-striping....
However...the side covers and tail-piece...I know there is an easier way to remove the pinstriping...any hints...??

Pin-striping from the factory has a clearcoat over it, this needs to be removed first.

So, how then? Most paint strippers will reak havoc on plastic parts from what I hear.

You can purchase special "plastic parts" paintstrippers.
If you gently "crack" the clearcoat on the pinstriping, you can then use a razor blade or a fine scraper to lift them off in pieces.
I personally would simply use a sanding block, as the pinstriping is raised from the paint surface, it will tend to come off first. So a little care and it will be fine. Admittedly this is assuming you are stripping the parts back to "bare".

I am stripping them to bare, however, I dont want to deform the plastic...
I'll look in Home Depot for the plastic removal, as well as the local auto parts store...
I just want to do it in the easiest way possible....and best...

Never used such a tool but it looks interesting. If you go to a quality auto body supply store they can tell you what works. 3M also has a woodgrain and decal remover in a spray can.

This would most certainly do the job, BUT you will need to "crack" through the clearcoat first.

Do as dink has suggested to break the clear seal. Then try using a hair dryer to warm the stiping up. When it heats up the tape will wrinkle as the glue softens. I have used this method on cars, but the striping needs to be plastic based. I'm not sure if yours are paper or plastic/vinyl based.

I used to sell that 3m product like hotcakes to body shops when I sold paint equipment. They are basically an "eraser" that rubs the decals and striping off. It also removes most, if not all glue residue. I would use a razor blade along the edges to crack the clearcoat. Then this product will work great. They also make one for use in a high speed drill.

I removed the stripes from my tailpiece and seat rails with a hair-dryer, razor, and a plastic safe adhesive remover. Slow, but works.
