    81 gs 1100e noise

hi guys i have a metal on metal noise.it seems to be coming from the clutch area.its definitly gets louder with rpms.the clutch plates are new,and there seems to be light scuff marks on the outer edges of them.could the basket be the culprit? maybe not letting themrelease as they should?any ideas would greatly appreciated thanks.[-o<

The stock clutch hub nut threads could be stretched out if the nut is stock. Try an APE heavy duty nut for $15.
    GS\'s since 1982: 55OMZ, 550ES, 750ET, (2) 1100ET\'s, 1100S, 1150ES. Current ride is an 83 Katana. Wifes bike is an 84 GS 1150ES

Put your bike on your side stand and take off your clutch cover. You don't have to drain your oil.
You might need an air or electric power tool to get the nut off the clutch hub. (unless it's stretched like previously mentioned then it should come right off) Take a look at the back of the clutch hub where the main driven gear is. These hubs have a tendency of spinning out the springs and the rivets deteriorating. If the clutch hub and gear themselves are ok send them to Ape, Vance and Hines or Falicon to get it redone. They weld it up tight with new springs and backing plate.

thalreadyanks guys,i already tried a new nut. not a heavy duty one but a new one. the clutch rivets are really tight and the springs seem fine.thanks for the ideas. i did notice what appears to be some wear marks on the inside of the basket, where the disks ride.
