    GS1000 gas tank

I have 1980 GS1000G (I think). When I took the tank off there where 2 parts on the underside. One was the petcock another was a round thing that looks like a gas/air hose goes on but wasn't hooked up. My question is what is the part called and should it be hooked up. Thanks again.

That's your sending unit for the fuel level gauge. Two wires hook up to it. The hose barb is for a vent line. It should be long enough to go back along the frame and then down in front of the battery box.

Thanks Tom. The wires were hooked up but I have to get a vent line going.

The line is a drain line, so if the sending unit leaks, the fuel will drain down under the bike, instead of right between your legs, on a hot engine. The tank is vented thru the fuel cap.
