    Lifter Valve?

I bought this on Ebay. The seller said it was a valve spring compressor for removing valves from the head. It seems small and I have a fear it's for inserting shims which is for a different head than I have. I have a 16 valve motor that doesn't have shims involved.
The part number on it is 09916-19021. When I search this part it says it has been replaced with 09916-1022. It also says it is a lifter valve.
Was I ripped off? Is it the tool I need?
I need to replace exhaust oil stem seals on the #1 cylinder and wondered if this is the right tool. Do I need to remove the head to replace the seals or can I use the rope trick in the cylinder? I would hate to remove the head because the cams are degreed in and all the gaskets are new.

I bought mine in the UK for 22 pounds ($40) give me about 20 mins and I'll post a pic of it.
I have used it a bunch of times and never a problem.

I've seen that type valve spring compressor before. Does mine appear to be one? I put a pack of cigs as a size comparison.
The part number I gave above is a Suzuki part number. I can't find squat about it.

That looks like someone made that and too small to pull a valve out. I just used a big c-clamp to take apart a gs550 head.

It's a Suzuki part. I can find it on many microfiches but I can't figure out what it's used for.

If I can't figure out what this pos is I think you're right. I'm just gonna cut a notch out of some pvc pipe and use my large c-clamp!

I just bought 16 oil stem seals from Z1 Enterprises so I probably am removing the head.
Might as well do it right.

The correct valve lifter tool for the 16 valve '80 GS1100ET is part no. 09916-14510. The valve lifter tool uses the part no. 09916-14910 valve lifter attachment for the 16 valve engine. Other engines use different attachments.

They only want $122.87 for this glorified C-clamp at http://www.suzukipitstop.com

The 8 valve '80 GS1000 also uses the same valve lifter part no. 09916-14510 with a different attachment. The tool used for removing shims is the part no. 09916-64510 tappet depressor. It looks very similar to the tool used for adjusting the preload on shocks.

Post a picture if you can of your C-clamp and PVC pipe valve spring compressor. I almost bid on the fleabay tool you got. Shame it doesn't work
I need to make a set-up to do my valve seals and just can't justify major $$ for a tool I may use rarely
                      Thanks.

I'm going to make the one DimitriT posted a link for. Simple design and looks very fuctional with easy access to the cotters.
I'm not sure if that ring compressor works or not or even if that's what it is. The pic of it in the auction didn't look that small.

Now after all the work that has been done and I bought the new valve stem oil seals and a box of used valves and misc stuff off Ebay my wife is really starting to hate me.
