Fuel mileage?

For the first time in the ownership of my bike, I'm paying attention to the mileage I'm getting......

I've been riding in weather that's been consistently in the 30s and 40s, the road to work is a stop and go 35 mph, and today I noticed by some quick math that I'm getting 28 MPG

Now it could be the cold, and I know I'm definitely not fouling plugs or anything, but I was curious what you folks were getting.

On the GS its about 40mpg at 70 mph. It'll get worse as mph increase and maybe a little better as the mph decreases. I've never done a tank at 35 mph so I can't tell you about that. I think temps of 30 to 40 are cold enough to help them stay cooler and run better. Can't see that huarting your mileage.

Stop and go would definately pull it down. How far do you go and how long does it take?

Cold weather really shouldn't affect how effecient the bike runs at all. Really hot weather can decrease mileage somewhat.

I don't know what your bike is or what modifications have been done to it, but my 100% stock 83 1100E with 25k miles on it gets about 42-44 putting around, 38 to 40 stomping on it.

Same for me, I scoot around DC pretty aggressively and I think I average about 30mpg. I was also concerned about this, anything I can do besides the air filters to increase my milage? Would a carb synch/valve adjustment significantly help?

Carb synch might do it, but it could be any number of things. Trying to make a list in my head before I type, but it really could be anything. I guess I would start by a valve adjustment, then a carb synch, and a compression test. From there, check your wheel bearings, brake drag, wheel alignment and balance, tire pressure, chain and sprocket wear.... etc....

My ride to work is about 6 miles, stop and go 35 mph.

I had my carbs completely rebuilt and synchronized last July. When I first got the bike, I dropped it off at a Honda motorcycle store (they're in the dealer group I work for), and I said "spare nothing, give it everything it needs."

Carbs done, tune up, fluids change, new tires, calipers rebuilt, etc etc etc....

Im going over 200 miles on a 5 gal tank. You should get better than 28mpg.

Maybe I'll just have to recalculate at highway speed, and when it's warmer.....

I was shocked, shocked I tell you to record 50 mpg with my gs650g on the last fill up. I admit I had been riding it like an old man for the last tank. Previously I was seeing 45 mpg with some pretty heaving getting on it.

my gs550 seems to do 185 km pretty consistantly before I need to put it to reserve. This usually means 12 or so liters of fuel, so in canadian thats 6.7 liters/100k. Somewhere around 33 mpg in american. Seems a little low now that I look around the posts, but I tend to gas the crap out of it at low rpm's and shift around 5500.

We need facts like model and year and if is is stock or not.

Im getting 58 with my 650 after carb sync and cleaning.
