I'm not really sure, but from what I remember a GS850 is a bored out GS750, PM Keith Crause on this site, he's the GS expert.

From what i've read, the gs850 is a punched out 750 on a 'modified' 1000 frame. exactly what modified means is a bit of a mystery. but it should be close.
This is where i got this information
      http://www.suzukicycles.org/GS-series/GS850G.shtml
It may or may not be accurate.

          It oughta work

I have heard of people replacing the GS850G engine with a GS1000G engine (fro more power) and that it was an easy swap. Looking at parts fiches, the crankcases, oil pan, and other parts appear to be identical. So, I would assume that the 850 engine will go into a 1000 frame.

Yes, an 850g motor will fit in a 1000g frame.
