1981 GS450T no spark on 1 cyl.
I have an 81 gs450T and i sold it to my friend. he drove it and the voltage regulator got disconnected. Fried the igniter and who knows what else, put a new igniter in and I have spark on the right cylinder. The left cylinder has no spark, I checked the pickup coil voltage on that cylinder and it is very weak and doesnt spike up like the other side, I tried one other pickup coil and same thing, I am not sure if it was just a coincidence or if there is something else wrong. Has anyone run into this? is there a possibility of the magnet being ruined? I have no idea what the problem is and the bike hasnt run in over a year. If anyone has any ideas or can share from experience it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Robert- NH:-DTags: None -

Switch the coils and see if the trouble follows. Might be a bad pickup or a faulty igniter.
Double check all connections. -

It looks like the problem is in the ignitor again, I may also have a short somewhere but I am going to try to do the HEI ignition module conversion. I saw it on the KZ website, I have gone through 3 ignitors on the bike so far.Comment

Check the connections from the crank trigger pickups. Follow the wires up from the ignition cover. It should come together under the air filter box.
Make sure all your grounds are clean and tight.
Where the ground wire from the R/R attaches to the R/R body run a wire from there to the negative battery post.Comment

1. Your R/R could fry components if the output was too great (more than 15 volts). If it's output is normal, then I don't see how it could fry anything. Verify its output.
2. But maybe the bad pulse generator (pickup-coil) is the real issue.
Swap it out for a good one and test.Comment
