In my opinion, K&L are good quality repair kits. And Z1 is THE place to buy them from. I've boughten lots of stuff from them including several K&L kits. -
I have seen a caution many times on the board to NOT use any of the brass parts (jets) that come in the kits. Clean your stock parts very well, then use the new o-rings and gaskets. Seems the quality control of the after-market pieces is sometimes less than desireable.

I've used the K&L kits with success. I do not use the kits jets though. Stick with the Mikuni jets. (pilot, main and air jets)Comment

I've used the jets from the kits and they are fine. These kits are made in Japan and are of good quality. Why spend the money for the kit and only use a few pieces????Comment

Motorcycle carbs are not like auto carbs - you can not just order a "KIT" and expect to have everything you need.
O-rings on air jet screws and O-rings connecting the carbs to one another should always be replaced. There are many other things that might be problems as well but there is no way to know without taking the carbs apart first. For example, float needle may be pitted, float seat seal may be cracked, float bowl gasket may be damaged, etc. The factory Mikuni parts are NOT cheap, and aftermarket stuff is questionable since the OEM's changed jetting all the time and there is no way for the aftermarket carb "kit" assemblers to keep up with all the changes. By parts at your own risk and ALWAYS compare the new parts to old to make sure they match.Ed
To measure is to know.

K&L carb kit quality
huh, my intention is to have ALL the replacement parts ready so when i take the carbs apart i can replace whatever is due
i live in new zealand and often have to rely on overseas parts purchases so getting everything ahead of the project and in one go is the least expensive and fastest way to do it (due to the shipping costs and delivery time)
 my main concern is if the brass parts and needles are of satisfying quality and fitment (compared to the original)
ps. i have never done this before hence my question here. i also know people here run into all sorts of problems (and fine details) fixing their carbs so i though if i replace all the bits at once then i'm less likely to have to attend to any one part later on
many thanks for your replies :-DComment

First on CV carbs you can not get them too clean. also replace the intake boot O rings regardless of what they look like. & the boot itself if their is any question about their conditionComment

I've used the K&L kits on my VM carbs. They are good quality.
My kits included new needles and seats. Just re-check your float heights in case they are slightly different from stock. Mine were spot on, no adjustments needed.
The machining on the pilot fuel and air screws is slightly inferior to the stock mikuni ones. I fitted the new ones, but have since reverted back to the originals. I find that my tuning is more precise with the stock jet needles.
I bought my sets on ebay, but have also bought plenty of other stuff through Z1 Enterprises. No problems.:) The road to hell is paved with good intentions......................................
