I suggest a stage 3 DJ kit. You're going to have to re-jet all 3 circuits, pilot/jet needle/main. You're mostly paying for the adjustable jet needles, which happen to be the most critical circuit to general riding. Of course, I assume your model is US and your jet needles are non-adjustable.
Good chance your bike won't stay running is because of a very lean jet needle position, but it depends on what throttle position you're trying to use when it stalls.
The K&N's will work well as long as you don't oil them too much. I assume you bench synched and followed that with a vacuum tool synch? The mixture screws need to be adjusted using the highest rpm method. Floatbowls must be venting properly. Just trying to mention several things that can equal poor starting/poor idle.
1 step up (2.5) should be enough for the pilot jets. Hard to guess the mains right in the first try. If that pipe is the one I think it is, it flows well. I'd guess 150's for mains. But your problem is the jet needles. Please don't even think about re-jetting just the pilots and mains. You'll have a very lean running bike from approx' 1/4 to 3/4 throttle, for sure.
Order the kit. Have you checked them out? Curious as to what DJ mains are in your models kit.

where can I get the carb sinc tool and DJ jet kit? You are right about non-adjustable needles. I picked up some shims from suz shop when I got my last set of jets. Do u think they will work or are the adjustables a must?

As for the flow of my pipe, it has gooood flow, lots of flow.

Do you suggest leaving the float vent tubes on the carbs or does it matter?

As for the ? that steve asked me why I didn't know what was in my carbs. I took my bike to a supposed old school tech and he didn't know anything about how to work on a gs. He actually damaged my bike. I bought the jets so that he could rejet it for me. I did'nt know what he had in it when I got it back. I was informed that I was going to need at least 140 mains just to get started with setup that I have. He suggested that 130's would probably be too much. So you see I already had six sets of jets before I started to attempt this miself. As of now I have about 5 sets of mains and 5 sets of pilots. I have another ? How do I set the mix screws for the highest rpm when I can't keep it running after it warms up?

Do you have stock carbs installed? - you mentioned something about 34mm carbs? Not sure what to suggest if you are not using the origionals.

Chef1366 thanx so much. Fate I wish I still lived in Indiana or Kentucky I loved both places. Keith I was mistaken about the pilots they are 42.5's. Also I have shims for the needles will these work now instead of buy a $100+ Dynojet kit? I only have about a hundred to spend right now and I'd like to get the sinc tool first. I've got 145 mains in and have 150's if I need them. Is it possible to get my bike running with what I have. Right before I moved I had a suz shop sinc and rebuild my carbs. I have'nt riddin it at all since then. They would'nt rejet for insurance reasons. So I'll learn to do it myself.
