I am in the process of restoring my '82 GS 1100 GL and I am having a problem removing the clutch cover. i have removed all nine 8mm bolts and i can get the bottom of the cover to pry out about a quarter inch, but the top appears to be stuck. I have tried hitting the cover several time with a rubber mallet as the Clymers manual states. I have also tried using the clutch shaft by turning it to help break it free as Clymers states, but it popped around when i applied enough force. What is the procedure for removing this cover? I am afraid to pry too much because of the possiblity of damaging the surfaces. Many thanks for assistance!

If i'm not mistaken, it has a couple of dowel pins on the perimeter. Try tapping the bottom back in a little and try to remove the cover a little more evenly. Some of those dowel pins get a little rusty and cause some corrosion in the aluminum making them a little hard to get off. Try a little WD-40 also. -

The cover needs to come straight off. The locator pins will cause it to bind if its tilted.
