Strange Engine Noise?

My 1981 Gs650g has a noise which I believe is the cam chain.. my repair manual is in the mail and will be here in the next week hopefully...ugh,

Anywho I was wondering if anyone could instruct me in tightening it

I'd suggest you don't ride it until you figure it out. If you're pretty sure it's coming from under the valve cover, you'll need to remove it and check it out. It certainly might be something completely different so listen to it very carefully and have someone else check it with you. (Four ears are better than two).

You don't tighten the cam chain -- the tensioner is automatic. If your cam chain is loose that likely means you have a ACCT problem. See bwringer's web page on ACCT refurbishment.
