    What Th.....

    1980 GS 550. All carb parts are according to spec. With every thing as per book, I cannot rev over 5000. If I remove the airbox lid it will rev to 6000-6500. If I ease the throttle on it will go to 7000. What the pluperfect hell is going on?????????????

    Remove the air filter & see if it gets even better.

      I would say you are running rich... taking the lid off the airbox allows for better airflow, which makes your bike perform better..

        Taking the filter off doesn't change anything.

          So the engine will die with anything other than very slight throttle? Even with the choke partially on?
