I was installing my luggage and twised off a shoct bolt. I think there's enough to clean up the threads and get a nut on it, but if not, what do I do?

On my 1100 it looks like if you remove the rear fender it comes out. If not do you know any good welders? -
That sucks. I think the studs are a part of the frame. I would be inclined to take it to a good metal fabricator/welder and cut the stud then drill and put a high strength bolt in place.

I did the same thing. It really sucked. First, using a die with the same original thread size I re-cut the threads and was able to secure the acorn nut. A month ago, while installing new shocks, I found the threads would no longer hold, so I used a die of the next size smaller and cut it again, this time using a new, smaller nut.
I stopped at a local bike shop that does great body and frame work, specializing in old bike restoration. I showed the mechanic my problem and he said the the bolt runs all the way through the frame so he'd have to drill the whole thing out, make a new bolt, then install it and weld it in place.
For all that work I figured I'd wait till I need to before doing anything else. I used Loctite on the bolt and check it regularly. So far so good.Comment
