    uneven exhaust pressure

Here is another is this normal question. The exhaust on my gs450l has more pressure coming out of the right cylinder than the left. When you hold your hand behind the muffler the difference is very noticable even when the throttle is tweeked. It is a fairly new factory exhaust with a crossover pipe.So is this normal?

    Do a compression test.

      Yes. Do that.

Also check your spark plugs and see if they are the same make AND heat range, as this can affect combustion.

Does it only do it when the bike is on the side stand? Maybe the exhaust gas is heavier on one side than the other.

        j/k

Assuming no exhaust leaks, there are MANY reasons why one cylinder might be producing more power than the other. As others have mentioned, a big difference in compression between the two is the most obvious suspect. Other suspects include:
            1. Differences in spark strength (which may be due to coils, wires, plug caps, plugs themselves).
            2. Diferences in carburetion (one is richer/leaner than the other).
            3. Air leaks - one carb boot may leak while the other doesn't.

Thanks for the responses. The compression is around 148 in both cylinders. I'll clean the carbs over the winter and see if that helps. The bike runs really well after it warms up but the left pipe is turning slightly blue so rich/lean could be causing it.
