    81-83 650G Carb Rebuild

I have some question about rebuilding my carbs on my 650. The bike was sitting for a long time and I am going to get it going and I have ordered the rebuild carb kits but I am not sure if it is going to have everything I need. What the kit comes with I do need but I also need the floats, I know I will have to buy those by themselves but I need this sping like thing that the float sits on which is some kind of spring loaded thing with a screen on the bottom. This sping device is held in place with a small braket and screwed down with a phillips head bolt. Does this float valve come with the carb kit or do I have to order it by its self?

There are a wide varity of carb kits available, and some are more complete than others. Most come with the float needle and seat. None come with the float, and you are not likely to need them - just clean up yours and reuse. What the kits don't always come with is the O-rings holding the carbs together in a gang. There is a member here by the name of Robert Barr that sells compete O-ring kits. Good stuff and highly recommended.

For rebuild instructions look on the GSR home page for a tutorial. Competely dissasemble the carbs and clean them properly or you will most likely have to do the job twice.

    Good luck.

In fact, unless your jets are physically damaged, all you are going to need is a new set of o-rings. There are o-rings all throughout the carb, sealing the various jets in their passages. Robert Barr sells complete kits here. Very fair prices, and since some of the carb kits might contain jets of questionable quality, why pay for them in the first place?

The kits do not have all the o-rings you need. Get the kit mentioned above. They don't come with floats either. Gaskets, jets (Don't use), float needle and seat, pilot jet cap.
