how to adjust mixture screws????

83 1100ed. I figuered out my problems are in the mixture screws. The po rejetted but never adjusted the mixture screws. How do I tell when the screws are set right. I heard something about highest rev?? I think?? I could use a colortune but not in the fundage right now. thanks for the help in advance.

Get out your paper and pencil. Turn each of the screws in until lightly seated, counting the turns as you do this. Record that number. Now turn each of them back out 2 turns as your starting point. Warm up the bike to operating temp, set the idle to about 1100 rpm. Turn the mixture screw on carb #1 slowly (both directions), listening for a change in engine speed. Adjust for the highest speed. Re-adjust idle to 1100 if necessary. Repeat with the other three cylinders. Now go back and turn each of them in again, counting the turns and record that number, too. Put that paper somewhere where you are not going to lose it. Turn each of the screws back where it ran the best and enjoy riding.
