78 GS1000 cylinders removal. Where is that bolt???

I'm taking apart the bored spare motor. The manual says there are 3 small bolts. One outside #1 and #4 plugs and the other somewhere around the tach gear, but I can't find it!

Is there acually one there?

I don't want to start thumping it until I'm sure all the bolts are out.

If you have the head off the three bolts are already removed. The third bolt is in between the 2 and 3 cylinders in a semi-circle type piece that sticks out of the cylinder and bolts to the head. The bolt comes from underneith and not from the top.
Bottom line. If the head is off there is nothing holding the cylinders on but an old base gasket.

some 1000's have the third bolt and some don't. i think it's the older ones that don't have it. it's on the front right in the middle of the head.

be gentle with those bottom fins while prying upward.. OOOH, SNAP!!!!

So I got the cylinders moving. They are up to flush with the head bolts, but now its stuck. Why?
The pistons are free.
What is going on? It looks like it's binding on a head bolt. WD-40 it?

Your'e either not even or the rings are hanging up at the bottom or the cylinders. My bet is you're not even. Drop it back down and get a buddy to help lift it evenly.

I got it, finally. I had to wiggle it like mad. The very center head bolts and channels were FULL of gunk! I actually ended up cutting off one ot the bolts from the bottom. Then I had to alternatly tap it back and forth and spray it with solvent to get the bolt out of the hole.

I'm not reusing the case, so I wasn't too concerned about it.

Remove the piston pin circlip on one side and push out the piston pin. Hopefully the pin will slide and you won't need a pin puller.
