    Cylinder head cover warpage

Is it normal for the cylinder head cover to have a little bow in it? When I set it on the cylinder head without a gasket it rocks back and forth about 1/32" or so. The head seems flat- its the cover that's warped. Is this to be expected?

I had one that rocked but used it for some time. Just start on the center inside bolts and work your way out alternating sides. I did end up replacing it though.

It's probably rocking on the tach gears. those gears need to mate properly while you seat the cover or they may be damaged. rotate the gear from where the cable attached as you put it on and you should be good.

No, tach gear is not in the cover.

Just for the heck of it, I started to bolt the cover down without the gasket to see if it would straighten out. With just the 4 inside bolts holding it down it went straight. I think when all 16 are on it will be fine. Just kinda surprized that it had a bend in it.
