    get the damn seat off of 1983 gs550L ???

    A key? The 650L has a lock set at the rear of the seat just above the rear fender...not sure of the 550, but worth a look.

            put the key in the helmet lock and turn right
            came right off LOL

                You can use the same lock to remove any helmets that may get stuck there. :-D (Sorry, couldn't resist!)
