Idle adjuster screw lock nut - Finger tight?

    Idle adjuster screw lock nut - Finger tight?

    I locked down my idle adjuster screw lock nut finger tight. Is that good enough? Everytime I used a socket it messed up the sync as I assume it turns the screw a wee bit. Sync is dead on right now and I am going out to take it for a test ride.

    I had to take off the throttle bracket from carb two to loosen its idle screw nut :P Put it back on then synced.

    Let me know thoughts please

    Your sync won't last long plus you'll lose your locknut ad screw. Tighten it down and use some blue loctite.
    I know what you mean by the last bit of tightening messes up your numbers. Either get the tool or learn how to compensate. I learned how to compensate which in no fun.
    Do you have a fan blowing on the headers?

      The easiest way to tighten the locking nuts (unless you have that neat tool that has an opening for your screw driver through the socket) is to sync the carbs, then take them off the bike and using a set of small wrenches (called ignition wrenches) use your screw driver to hold the screw in place while tightening the locking nut with the wrench.

        That's a lot of trouble to keep from buying an $18 tool....I hate having to remove/replace my carbs. The pods make it much easier though......

          I always remove the nuts and put blue loctite on the screws. Holds 'em tight and I don't have to mess with no stinkin' locknuts.

            I spent the big bucks ($5) some years ago and bought the tool for that little problem. :-)

                        On both of my bikes, there is no lock nut on the idle adjuster.
                        It's just a spring-loaded knob that raises and lowers the idle speed.

                          I think he was making a mistake in what he called it. It seemed pretty obvious he was referring to the individual carb adjustments....(I think8-[)
