I have an 83 750es, the tach is dead doesnt read at all, any thoughts on where to start?

It's electronic... start tracing wires. ;-) Is the bike running? Sometimes electronic tach issues can correlate to igniter issues. -

Ahh, good. Igniter problems suck. Theres a bunch of info on electronic tack wonkiness in the archives if you do some searching.
However, if it's just plain dead, you've either got a wire disconnected or need a new tach. Not gonna be too much more helpful advice than that -- you're just gonna have to dig in.
