    1000 engine in a '79 750L

My 750 is well on it's way to a rebuild, it is slowly burning more and more oil and is approaching 55,000 miles.

I read somewhere that the frame and motor mounts between the 79 1000, and the 79 750 are the same and should be a direct swap.

My thought process leads me to think that I can get a used 1000 engine cheaper than a rebuild. this would give me a little more power for the hills and riding 2 up. It would also make me smile more!

Any thoughts on this swap? Any 1000 motors laying around

In 79 both bikes used the same crankcase, so all the engine mount lugs will line up and its a direct bolt in. Later models had smaller crankcase dimensions (starting with 1980 I believe) I did an 81 into a 79 frame and had to fabricate engine mounts and cut the rear engine case to make it line up, but 79 1000 engine into 79 750 frame will match up without any mods.

Motor mounts do NOT line up, but it is simple to fabricate them.
          Mine is a 1978 GS 1000 engine in a GS 750 frame.
