    Spedo cable question

Picked up my 81 GS850G this evening from the bike shop after having new Avon RoadRider tires front and rear installed. Made it 1/4 mile from the shop and noted that the spedometer was not moving from zero. One u-turn later back to the bike shop, found spedo cable smashed at a 90 against the brake caliper. The up arrow on the spedo hub on wheel is pointing straight up, rather than in line with the forks as the Clymer manual shows. Just a spedo cable will fix it, or could i possibly have more problems from being assembled wrong?

    Speedo Cable question

The speedo hub has two locating tabs that insert into the hub assembly. As long as they are not broken you may be able to straighten them out.

As far as i'm concerned they are. The shop was closing as i picked it up, but managed to catch them as they were leaving. Told them i'd call them tomorrow morning. BTW, was pleased with the feel of the new Avons. Tires that were replaced had been setting idle for 6 years. The rubber was hard and cupping badly.

Saw that in the Clymer's manual too. Will have to pull it back apart and check it. I'm hoping they're not broken, but will have to see.

It will be fine. Make the shop put on a new cable. Amateurs!
Imagine if they had to do any real work on the bike!:?
