    Coil Interchange?

Need to replace the coils on my 1983 GS850G. Found some for a 1979 GS850 at a very reasonable price. They look a little different, but not that much. Does anyone know if they will interchange?

After 80 the ignitions became electronic. The coils for these ignitions are 3 ohms. Pre 80 have points and different coils. Not sure if they will work or not. Search Ebay for GS1100 and GS 1100. There are a few sets of used coils on there that are 3 ohms.

You mean you were born in the Burgh and didn't stay? I lived there for two years and the locals seemed stuck in time and are VERY proud of their city.

      Glad to be FROM Pittsburgh

Thanks for the help! Pittsburgh is a great town, but I'm glad I'm FROM Pittsburgh. Married me a Georgia peach and am now proudly a Georgian. Except, I'll always be a STEELER fan! (Well come on, the Falcons?)

You need the correct 3 ohm coils I would not use the 79GS 5 ohm coils

I'm from the Cleveland area and still follow the Browns. Go Browns!!
People won't understand but the Pittsburgh-Cleveland rivalry goes WAY back.

Check Ebay for late model Bandit and Katana coils. GSX-R coils will work too as long as they aren't the ones that fit on the plugs. You can tell those apart because there will be four of them to a set. You can ususally pick up a set for about $30.

Some of the greatest, toughest fought games ever played, were between the Browns and the Steelers. Real blue collar, smash mouth football! I miss those old AFC central rivalries! (Go Falcons, Please Go! Anywhere!)

I think I found a couple coils on EBAY that should work (80-86 3 ohm) Thanks for the help, one and all!
Good Luck to your Brown (unless their playing Pittsburgh) Go Steelers!!!!

(P.S. Riding season is much longer in Georgia, I always hated riding in the snow)
