    Tire Sizes

My 85 GS550E has a stock 110/90-18 tire which needs changing. Local dealer has 130/90-18 and 120/90-18 tires on sale, will either one fit?

I've got 120's on both of my 550's, one a 17" and the other an 18", and they both seem to handle fine. The rim is fairly narrow on my bikes, 2.50 I believe, so you don't want to go too wide or the rim will force the tire to pinch in.

The stock size will handle better on the stock rim though. I'd get a 110 rather than putting a 120 or 130 on there, which would make it handle worse.

A: Is the proper size still available?

B: How much are the discounted tires compared to the proper size?

C: How much do you value good handling for the next several thousand miles?

D: Is the value of B considerably greater than C?

Wider tires can help with traction on a car, but not usually a good idea on a bike with narrower rims.
If the stock size is not available, only go up one size to the 120.

Or suck up and pay the extra for the stock sizes.
