Carb Swapping or Replacing fuel pilot screws

Here's my bike:

1979 GS850 with Vm26ss carbs.

My Situation:

I rebuilt the carbs. But when I did I found that the two of the fuel pilot screws - (as named by http://www.thegsresources.com/files/vm_carb_rebuild.pdf) were bent and another I stripped.

So my options at this point, I think, are to figure out where I can get new fuel pilot screws, (least time consuming route) and replace them.. Or to buy and then rebuild a CV carb set.

Does anyone know where I can get these pilot fuel screws?

Would it be better to just get CV carb set? If so, does anyone know if there are any necessary mods to perform on my bike for such carbs? Do I need to swap over to a throttle with a single throttle cable, rather than the double cable on the 1979?

Any suggestions/info is much appreciated.

Some carb rebuild kits come with the fuel screw. The link below is a rebuild kit for the 750 but the fuel screw is the same for all VM carbs.

CV carbs are a larger diameter and require a different head; not an easy swap. You are better off using what you have - just make sure the tips of those fuel screws are not stuck in the carb body (push them out if they are).

pilot fuel screws

This is my first bike and I don't know much about carbs, but the carbs I have do not have all the same size pilot fuel screws. Carbs 1 and 2 were the same and carbs 3 and 4 were a pair as well...

Also, I bought a used vm carb on ebay that went to a GS1000. I pulled the pilot fuel screws from there. They paired up the same way my other carbs do, and they were also not the same sizes as the ones from my original carb set up.

Can you explain this?

If I were to buy those rebuild kits, how would I know what the proper adjustment for the pilot fuel screws would be, if the needle size has now changed?

Souns to me as if someone busted the tips off those screws - they'll snap like a carrot if you even slightly over tighten or drop them. All the screws should be the same dimensions. If they're snapped there's a strong chance the tip is still in the carb - remove the screws and see if you can see daylight (carb tops off and slides out) - it's a tiny hole mind. Or try poking a bit of thin fues wire down from the inside of the carb, you can see the hole in front of the slide 'circle'.

If the tips are in there they can be fun (not) to get out.
