Side stand bolt pitch?

Hi folks.

I did some touring this year on my 78 GS750, using luggage. When i first rebuilt the bike two years ago, i decided to fit only the center stand. But after using luggage for the first time, i found it difficult to "get off" whilst trying to hold the bike up. So i am going to refit the side stand.

It is "just" possible to do this with the Jama exhaust still on, but i cannot see the mounting threads directly. I need to get some bolts for the stand, and i know they are 10mm. But does anyone know the pitch?

Std metric pitch at this size is 1.5 i think. But Suzuki used 1.25 as well. As i said i can't see the threads directly or get a good "feel" unless i remove the exhaust which makes it a big job, gaskets etc.

Appreciate any advice.

That bolt's a 1.25 pitch - means it will cost 10 times as much to buy as a standard 1.50 which is a right PITA.

Are you in Hampshire England? I toured through there this year on the trip i quoted in my post. I stayed in Bournemouth for a while, my Father came from there and i haven't been there for years (i'am in Cheshire).

It was funny, i was worried about leaving the bike outside the front of the hotel. But when i got there the hotel was behind the Bournemouth international center where the Labour party conference was starting in 3 days. There were armed police patroling the street day and night.

I said to them, it was good of them to look after my GS like that !!

Not sure about how your hotels/motels are set up over there, but when we are travelling, we ask about a secure place to park the bike where it can be seen, possibly by the night clerk. Quite often, they will suggest parking under the canopy out front. In July, 2006 we attended Wing Ding, which is the yealy gathering for the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. We had rooms at the Embassy Suites in Nashville, Tennessee, along with many others, but our timing was just right for parking. On the right side of this picture, you can see our bikes ( my Wing with trailer, and her 850 ) parked for the night right at the main door of the Embassy Suites. \\/

Service isn't always quite this good, but we have never had a problem with overnight parking.

Hi Steve.

There are motor cycle freindly hotels where i went, but it seemed everywhere in bournemouth was booked when i enquired. These cater for secure parking. I thought it was strange because almost every room in Bournemouth at the time was booked, and it was out of season! I was lucky to find the place i did.

It was only when i got there i realised it was this political conference, and all the hotels were full of delegates and supporters!

You can tell i don't follow politics much or i would have known!
