Hard to crank / Bog on throttle

I recently had my carbs rebuilt from a well known and respected shop around here. It ran perrfect for 3 days. Now when i try to start it, it will only start with a slight choke and a small amount of throttle. Then when it does start.. I throttle up and then it tries to bog for about 1.5 seconds then it will rev. It will idle just fine. Any ideas on what could cause this?

It is unusual to require any throttle when starting with the choke. Try using just a bit more choke rather than throttle.

The "bog on throttle-up", is that only when cold or does it happen when warm, too?

There is no information in your profile...what bike are we talking about, anyway?

How does it run when warm? Are you only experiencing the bog when cold?

Oh yes, It started to run fine once it was warm. Also it would crank right up. I am guessing it is time to look into the valves? Sorry i read a sticky on cold start just now and they said to do that. At least you get to see a pic of it in this thread, finally!

Nice bike. Looks just like mine.

Have you tried to start it with full choke and backing it down so you don't over rev. Let it warm up before hitting the throttle at all.

12 of 16 valves have been adjusted. A couple were off passing double their maximum recommended gap. I hope this solves the start and bog problem.

While I have her apart. Any advice on where to find some nice coils and plug wires?

I am unable to figure out what is causing the charging system to not work... I cannot perform the tests since my gauges do not work. Just one thing at a time here.

Could be a bad ground from the RR, try grounding it direct to the battery with a long lead. Could also be the Stator. The stator papers are great, you need a meter though!

www.z1enterprises.com will sort you out some Dyna green coils & wires. You could also get some Accel ones, they do a complete kit & come well recommended (they are prob a little easier to fit than the Dyna's.
