    GS 1000 low compression

    I bought a 1979 GS 1000 that has marginal compression in all cylinders. I'm currently checking the valve clearances to see if this might be the cause, but I figure the motor is pretty worn. I was wondering if anyone here has ever used Restore in a GS? I figure I'd probably have to pull the clutch and reassemble the covers to run the engine to treat the cylinders, but not destroy the clutch. I'm probably looking at a rebuild next winter, but I'd like to be able to get through this summer reliably. Any thoughts?

    Just checked the Resore web site and it reeks of snake oil... No technical explination of what the stuff does other than claims to "seal micro cracks in the cylinder walls"? I'd pass.

      Restore

      Tried Restore in worn MGB engine didnt make any difference at all would avoid.Cheers Paul J..

        i'd just hone the cylinders and get new rings if it was low compression on an old bike. get a new headgasket too.

          Valves worn or rings/cylinders???

          Did you try a wet/dry compression check??

          Unless it's way over 100,000 miles I'd guess valves, as they get ruined by running too long without being adjusted correctly, valve jobs are fairly straightforward.
          Doing it today on my 750/850...
