Electrolosis (sp) Rust cleaning on a tank?

I had a link that another forum member gave me, but i dunno wtf i did with it. Anyone have any good info on this? I have the basic jist, just wanted some pointers or tips? Got a couple of tanks to give it a shot on. Has anyone tried it? Did it work for you? etc etc

Just one bit of advise. I tried this method on a very rusty tank. Where the sacrificial annode was, it did great. I ended up cutting the bottom off of the tanks and there was just too much rust to even had hope that it would work. If your tank has a light film of rust, it should work fine. I have derusted several loose parts in a bucket and it worked great. Even on chrome pieces this method works well. You just need a little time and patience.....cc

Thanks CC, Yeah most of these tanks are just the light film of powdery rust. Frankly, i ran the one all last summer with an inline filter in it with no problems. But its a risk id rather not take if i can help it. Ive read nothing but horror stories of tank liners, especially if you dont do it perfectly, and i dont trust myself to do it perfectly. I think it would be easier to have to use the electrolosis method once a year if necessary rather than deal with a bad Por or Kreem job.

I had great success with Por-15 and wrote up a step-by-step on the forum. It wasn't hard. Just had to have patience, a bit of time for labor and some good duct tape....

I think if you did a good electrolysis job, then did the prep and lined the tank it would last forever. Tank lining horror stories result from a lack of prep. All 3 of my linerd tanks are fine after 20 years

i think i'm going to give this a shot in my VERY rusty tank. I'm going to let it go for a few days at 2amps and then check results. Hopefully I'll be able to post good findings. in the meantime, some before pics -
