Ok this may seem like a dumb question...

But today i was chatting with a guy over on the DTT forum, who swapped out his points and condensor ignition with an electronic set up from a later model bike (in this case, Kaw) Is it possible to do that on our GSs? I have a worthless 16v 750 motor from which i could pull it. Just asking

You could, but you'd have use & wire in the stock igniter box too, not just the trigger. Would be a bit of a PITA but certainly possible.

Fitting a Dyna S would be easier as it's only 3 wires!

I know as I've just done it!

See if you can the ignition base to fit. Find a place for the igniter and use the coils and advance. Put the timing marks from the advance on F1&4 and line up the crank trigger with the pickup.

Wow thanks for the quick replies fellas! Yeah i definately know that a Dyna S would be a hell of alot easier, but, its also 130ish bucks, plus, to do it right, i would need coils (another 130ish or more) and new wires, etc etc. It sounds certainly like a big PITA to do it, but i may be suprised. And, its here, and its free. Worth a shot, or should i just bite the bullet and spend yet more money on this cafe project??

The stock setup uses 3 ohm coils too... so you need coils anyway.

On the instructions to the Dyna S all it specifies is AT LEAST 3ohm coils so I think you could even run the 5ohm ones ok. I'm thinking of trying that myself on the 78.

Ive got the coils off that 80 bike too, so i wouldnt be using everything for the ignition system off of it. I'll give it a serious look. If its a pain, screw it, i'll just get a Dyna...
