I would suggest doing the stator papers now

You have simply isolated it to charging. It still could be the R./R and not the stator (I'm assuming). Phase B deals with the stator. It could still be the stator is OK and the R/R is busted.

If ohming out the stator passes and you get the correct AC voltage out (no load test in the manual), then order a Honda R/R from duaneage and install and it will probably fix the problem. If nothing else you will be making your bike better if not solving the problem.

I'll do the no load test today. I'm just pleased I've made progress!!

if u have already bought the stator then bad luck i don't know if your bike uses the same as a 80 550Lbut i have an extra stator lying around that i could have given u for the price of shipping

No, didn't buy a stator yet.

There's no continuity from the stator leads to ground.
I did the no load test at 4000 rpm and the readings are bouncing from 25-30volts!!

Probably the R/R. Get a multi-tester and do the stator papers. Follow step by step.
Do a search for a member here named duaneage. He sells Honda R/Rs and the wiring.

I just checked the r/r and its way out of wack. The bike has sat for 4 years in a damp garage, which isn't good for the electronics.

I've asked duaneage about the Honda r/r.

Anyone have a cross reference on which stators fit which bikes??

You can check the stator without the R/R. It's in the stator papers. Make sure you need one first.
I go to Dennis Kirk and search for your Stator and there is a cross reference page.
