I use the old one and just put a light coat of yamabond ( or you can use a equivalent ) on it when it goes back in, I've done a couple like that and never had a problem.

      yamabond???

what is that? I bought a new site glass and was thinking of a hard permetex forma a gasket.

I guess there is not much pressure so it should not take much?

yamabond is yamaha's sealant. It comes in several flavors. It is similar to form a gasket and either would probably work just fine. Yamabond is a little easier to remove later and has the ability to seal even ripped gaskets. I use the grey (number 4 maybe?) for sealing the cases together. The black (no. 5) is stringy and more like rtv. I have used on oring type seals on my KLX. Good stuff in any case.
