Rear Wheel Bearing Questions

Hello. Please indulge yet another question from me about this 77 GS750.

I pushed the rear wheel bearings out just now. Not as bad as I feared after reading many posts here about it. A few taps with a drift and out they came.

The LEFT bearing says: KOYO 6204 Z JAPAN
The RIGHT bearing says: NSK 6204 DU

Are these the same or are there two different kinds/sizes of bearings?

If they are the same, is this what I'm looking for to replace?

The also sell a "Seal Kit" for about 4 times as much.

It includes Rear Wheel Bearing, Drive Flange, and Seal. Do I need all those things? Also, is this kit for one side or do I need two of these?

Appologies for all the questions. This is the first time I've done anything like this and I'm in a little over my head.

Also, not to distract from the questions, but how is it that I start a tune up and all of sudden I have the rear wheel off and am about to remove the swing arm. Oh, the joy of buying a 30 year old motorcycle! The weather in Chicago is finally nice and here I am taking it apart instead of riding (AAAAHHHHHH).

Got to get it ready for BC!

I just bought the kit.... 3 bearings & a seal for $22 is a pretty good deal. You'll pay $20 just for bearings at the local supplier.

Those bearings are the same by the way, looks like someone has replaced just one before. The third bearing is on the sprocket drive I believe.

You don't have to change them all & the seal if you don't want to & the others are in condition. My thought is for the sake of $15 might as well change them all & have done with it.

On mine only the brake side is notchy, I think that's because that side gets the hottest when the brake is applied or maybe it's been seized at some time & got really hot. Seen that before on mountain bikes when downhilling... ultra hot disk brakes toast that side bearing.

bearings are the same size. Just make sure you get some decent heavy grease all over the bearings befor you try to put them back in. You may want to put a dab of grease on the recess there they sit as well.

Will do! Ordered some marine grease along the bearings and a bunch of other stuff from Z1 just now. Thanks!

Yeah, I didn't even know about that one. I have not taken that part of the wheel apart yet.
