one more weird cold start question

Can a hard start cold be due to a worn out starter motor, because my bike runs perfectly when it's warm, starts instantly when it's warm. Even though it gives me a very hard time starting cold, it needs almost no choke immediately after starting.

I have done everything to this bike including valve clearances, coils, wires, caps, plugs, air filter, carb rebuild, new o rings, carb sync with guages, coil relay modification, new battery.

It runs great but it took a full minute to start it initially this morning, once it started, it started perfectly everytime after all day.

I also notice a difference if I leave it out in the sun, it will start right away even after 5 hours(assumedly a total cool down meaning a cold start)

I also heard that a K&N air filter breaths a whole lot better than the original setup so can I turn the air/mix screws out to adjust for that, could that be the cause of the hard start issue, too much air and not enough fuel?
thanks in advance for your continued help8-[

You may have just hit the nail on the head.

Did you check the compression yet? Would be a good place to start.

The K&N won't effect cold starting where you have the choke out. The choke dumps a goodly bit of fuel into the system so there should be no lean running.

Why would you think it's the starter? Does it turn slowly?

no, It's just that I have done everything else except the starter, I have a good battery, charging system is working, rode 100 miles yesterday and was still at 12.8 when I got home. I guess I will check compression when I get home tonight. What is the fix if the compression is bad, why would that only affect a cold start but pretty much run perfectly the rest of the time?

the fix is new pistons' rings and honning the cylinders
if its really bad the next thing is a re-bore of the cylinders and fitting oversized pistons/rings
as the engine warms up the rings expand and provide better seal than when cold
even with compression below servicable limit the bike may SEEM to run ok when warmed up (if all the other components are ok - valves, carbs, intake, etc)
                    hopefully not your problem
