So last night I got the carbs off the bike and got them seperated - no thanks to some semi-stripped phillips screws on the lower gang plate (note to self - stop by Ace Hardware on the way home).
The extra part in question is a washer that stayed pinched between the spring-loaded brass plunger and the sync adjusting screw on the #3 carb throttle lever. Looks like the PO or someone used this washer as a shim (to get the sync right?), but I wanted to make sure it didn't belong there. It's only on one carb - if it weren't #3 I might not even have asked. I don't see it in any schematics or pics in the shop manual.
I'm also open to any theories on what the person who did this was trying to accomplish - why a shim when there's an adjustment screw?
I'll take a pic tonight if that'll help - didn't have the camera handy last night.
