    Thanks Everyone for your help...

Sorry if this is technically the wrong forum for this but this is the forum that got me where I am today and I want to thank everyone for the technical help.

A year after receiving a "free" '81 GS850 I finally went for my first ride on it today. \\/ I've mostly lurked in the forums for the past year... you learn more by reading than writing right?

Anyway, I've never done anything more complicated to a vehicle than change a starter in my car and install an amp/stereo/speakers. But with all your help I've done all the things listed in my signature below and the thing moves now!

When I first got it it would start, but wouldn't stay running without the choke all the way out. Now it purrrrrs. Again thanks everyone. It's been fun so far and maybe next year I'll tackle some suspension upgrades.

    sigpic2002 KLR650 Ugly but fun!
2001 KLR650 too pretty to get dirty

Life is a balancing act, enjoy every day, "later" will come sooner than you think. Denying yourself joy now betting you will have health and money to enjoy life later is a bad bet.

      <sniff!> I love happy endings!

Mr. GooberPea, you are a fine example of someone who rolls up his sleeves and gets it done. Thank you for sharing your story.

      Thank you for your indulgence,

Goober, you and I are about in the same boat. I've mostly lurked and read and have little experience. The guys have done a great job helping me out. I had so much fun riding the GS last summer the Roadie quit on me so now I'm cleaning that carb!! I promised the GS I'd do her valves this summer. Who knows, maybe you'll be helping me out.

Oh, I'm not going anywhere. Though it's running I still feel like I have lots left to do. For starters... just about every tutorial on BikeCliff's site :-)

Well done! The satisfaction of doing something successfully yourself is one of the biggest motivators around as you most probably have experienced!
