If you want taller gearing on a GS shaftie, get an 84 GK. Otherwise, you'll have to live with the lower gearing on the 850.

      ...or get a '83 or '84 GS1100 G rear end - gearing is taller.

Regarding the pipes, Suzuki changed the muffler hangers in '82 and the early 850 pipes are not a direct bolt on.

And I agree with Lynn, don't trust people on the condition of exhaust systems - insist on photos (even at that, the pipes may not be as nice as the person states).

If you don't mind spending some money you might want to chase down a Jama exhaust for your bike. Not commonly distributed in the US anymore but high quality stuff if you can find them. http://www.laserexhausts.com/en/modu...-exhausts.html

Will a GS1100G rear end bolt onto an 850? I thought that was a nogo.

I'm with you on this one. I ordered fork seals for my 650E from old bike barn, and it took 3 weeks to get them and no one answered the phone.(they were all at a motorcycle convention somewhere)

I will only go through them as a last resort.
